CFLF Accomplishments

Since its inception in October 2005 , CFLF has had a lot of accomplishments:
  • Organized and collected over 11,000 signatures from concerned citizens to promote improved education in Livonia.
  • Engaged thousands of people in a democratic process as allowed by the US Constitution.
  • Replaced a 10 year BOE incumbent with Steve King to gain more transparency on the School Board.
  • Rallied the most voters to the polls in the May school board elections in numerous years.
  • Rallied the most voters to the August Primary Election (Recall Election) in numerous years.
  • Raised community awareness to issues and concerns surrounding school funding, curriculum changes, and state/federal regulations taking local control of schools out of the communities.
  • Sought out and obtained support for School issues from current and former state, county, and municipal elected officials.
  • Promoted the association of all citizens, and not just parents, to school election issues that impact an entire community, not just school age families.
And, by encouraging open lines of communication with the district, CFLF has been instrumental in creating several beneficial changes to the Legacy Initiative:
  • Buddy system/number of children from same school in each new classroom.
  • Encouraged new communication and transparency between the BOE and the community through improved Audience communications and Community Meetings.
  • Encouraged community discussions concerning the Cooper environmental issues.
  • Promote a district wide anti-bullying program and the inclusion of a single school left out of the DARE Program.
  • Encourage new communications concerning the sale of our LPS land through the newly formed Asset Utilization Committee.
  • Discouraged the use of "portables" within our district.
  • Encouraged a 5/6 spring & summer walk through in the schools.
  • Encouraged a new standard of ethics be adopted by the current BOE. Voting on conflict of interest issues (family members)
  • Promote and engage in legislative issues affecting our schools (K-16 * the Legacy itself * Sinking Fund Bills)
  • Ecourage a new financial responsibility and accountability to all taxpayers from the BOE and the District. Less spending.
  • Encourage attendance and awareness within the community for public meetings.
  • Presented cost saving alternatives to the district (Alternative Legacy Plan)
  • Encouraged participation from members to be part of a solution and not part of the problem.
